  1. Whoever came up with that answer is an idiot. If a candidate dies prior to a general election, the national committee must file papers to put a different name on the ballot in each state. Now, if you live in, say, Florida, that might be a tricky situation for the democrats. Also, any early voting cannot be changed. In other words, if you vote for Obama, he dies, Hillary is the new nominee, you already cast your vote for Obama, that wouldn’t count for Hillary, and you can’t re-vote.
